October Newsletter – 15th October 2017
Here is the latest on whats been happening in IOD and what we have coming up….
Indian Ocean Dragon Boat Club AGM – 5th October
Recently we had our AGM at the Tradewinds Hotel, the minutes of the meeting has been emailed out.
With that we have a new reconstructed Committee which now consists of the following..
President – Richard Parker
Vice President – Steve Voke
Treasurer – Jason Swiney
Team Manager – Mike Rammer
Fundraising Coordinator – Kelly Munro
Communications Officer – Ryan Allen
And the Coaching Staff now consists of..
Head Coach – Osvaldo Celenza
Assistant Coach – Phil Moferdin
with the above all in place we are looking to keep the club moving forward and growing to continue it’s success in the coming years.
IOD has also picked up a new main sponsor this season with Craig Palmer and his business Choice Equipment Rentals,
you can check out his website https://www.choiceequipmentrentals.com.au/ for more info.
Thanks for your support Craig, it’s great to have another founder of the club back with us paddling!
Membership Fees
Very soon your membership fees are due in soon, and with that here are the revised fees for the 2017/18 season…
Adult – $315
Student – $262.50
Social – $50
The above new membership is for those who don’t wish to paddle but would like to support our club, they will receive all the updates/news that the crew gets and on top of that they will get 3 free training sessions if they happen to want to try it out and have a paddle.
Whilst I am waiting for the thumbs up from our Treasurer to start requesting payments, please make sure you start getting your forms filled out ready and either emailed back to me or bring to training.
The new form has been emailed out for those who don’t have it or go to the new members page on the website to get it.
Open Day – Sunday 15th October
Thank you to everybody who turned up and helped run our Open Day, it was a huge success and hopefully we will have attracted some newbies who are keen to join us!
It was good to see everybody down especially those who have been away for a while.
Regatta 1 – 12th November
Our first Grand Prix Regatta in November will be the 200m distance with Tens and 20βs and the 2000m turn race.
We are now back to training 3 times a week so lets get bums in seats and be ready to start with a bang!
Please confirm your availability on the teamapp via your smartphone or online, emailed instructions on how to install teamapp for those yet to do it.
Gym sessions starting back up at Avada
For those that don’t know, Brent from Avada Crossfit is another of our main sponsors and starting from Monday 23rd October 7-8pm he is offering free group personal training program for 4 weeks to help get everyone ship shape for the first regatta.
The program will be specifically designed for everybody in the club and will work on improving mobility, flexibility and strength, with this in mind this will allow Oz and Phil to concentrate on getting the crew “boat fit” with their cardio and technique.
I strongly recommend those who can make any of the Mondays to give it a go as you have nothing to lose and everything to gain from it, there will be no “crossfit” element to this compared to whats been done in the past so don’t worry thinking you will be too sore to paddle in the week as Oz will be working closely with Brent to ensure that what is done will be essential to the strengthening and protection of the muscles used in dragon boating and will improve you as a paddler.
That should be all for now, any other questions or queries don’t hesitate to ask.
See you in the boat!
Richard Parker
